Data Only Services
We now have access to two ICP laboratories, one in our Wales facility and one that is operated and owned by our close alliance partner at Greenwich University. Having two facilities improves turn-around time and mitigates any delay due to instrument malfunction. The ICP OES /MS facility at Greenwich University, which is run by Dr. David Wray (d.wray@greenwich.ac.uk), successfully implemented an ISO 17025:2005 laboratory quality system, which is equivalent to the ISO 9000 series but focused on laboratory total quality systems (accreditation to 17025 negates the need to seek accreditation to ISO 9000). This provides Chemostrat with an option if clients require accredited data.
Whole rock inorganic geochemical data are being applied to an increasingly wide array of applications. While specialising in the stratigraphic application of these data as shown throughout our web-site, we also offer data only services, providing you with a wide selection of analytical methods and the highest quality data available:
ICP OES provides data for 10 major elements and 7 trace elements. This data array is ideal for mineral modeling, formation evaluation, borehole stability and is a cost effective solution. - Combined ICP OES / MS provides data for approximately 50 elements, including 10 major elements, 26 trace elements and 14 rare earth elements. The comprehensive element array derived from this method is ideal for those application that the smaller OES element dataset provide, but can be used to model clay mineral species, organic carbon contents, heavy mineral contents and much more
- XRF (ED and WD available) provides data for approximately 35 elements (10 majors and 13 trace elements and 2 rare earth elements), This option add S, Br, Cl and As to the data array, the first three being critical when modeling mineralogy in carbonates, black shales and evaporites.
- XRD: We have a state-of-the-art XRD instrument based in our Houston Alliance partners’ facility (Ellington and Associates). By using a Bruker Linxeye detector we are able to provide a rapid cost effective XRD service.
The laboratory currently operates a quality system according to fully defined methods and procedures, using dedicated staff with a total of over 30 years experience in this form of analysis. Preparations are undertaken in a dedicated laboratory and are analyzed using the Unit's own ICP systems. A documented QA/QC protocol is applied. Certified reference materials and in-house QA samples are included in all batches of work, a selection of samples are also prepared in duplicate and analyzed in triplicate to evaluate intra- sample and intra-measurement variability. We also participate in an international proficiency testing scheme pertinent to this work (GeoPT).
